In the fall of 2005, Metro Transit introduced a new service for HRM public transit users, MetroLink.
It involves two routes serving downtown Halifax, one from Lower Sackville and one from Cole Harbour.
A new fleet of twenty buses has been purchased that will provide a more comfortable, limited-stop service (three stops) using air-conditioned vehicles with customized seating and space for bicycle storage on the exterior.
The vehicles are low-floor and fully accessible.
The project has a budget of approximately $13.5 million provided by HRM, Transport Canada, the Province of Nova Scotia, and Ecology Action Centre.
