LED Night Lights

Night lights can be an important safety tool for Nova Scotians of all ages.

Improved lighting in hallways, bathrooms and other areas of the house can prevent falls and other injuries.

Night lights are now available with the latest in lighting energy technology, light emitting diodes (LEDs).

They use 23 times less energy than a conventional 7 watt night light, and last for forty years or more.

The typical annual electricity use for one LED nightlight is only 16 cents.

Some LED night lights include a photosensor to turn it off when the room is lit, and some even feature an emergency light for power outages.

To help prevent falls among senior citizens, Conserve Nova Scotia provided 3,000 LED nightlights free of charge to the Community Links group Preventing Falls Together in 2008.

Preventing Falls Together distributed the nightlights to senior citizens at fall-prevention seminars throughout the province.
