Getting the Word Out

The Province funded an promotional program delivered by our environmental partner Clean Nova Scotia in both the summers of 2006 and 2007 which resulted in the distribution of CFLs in Canso, New Glasgow, Yarmouth, Shelburne, Springhill, New Glasgow, Yarmouth Inverness, Annapolis Royal, Canning, Truro, Pictou, Parrsboro, Middle Musquodoboit, Antigonish, Malagash, Bridgewater, Hubbards, Sydney, Digby, West Pubnico, North Sydney, Tatamagouche, Wolfville, and Stewiake.

Homeshows and Community Events

The Province has given out CFLs to those attending home shows and community events across the province, including events in Halifax, Sydney, Kentville, Windsor, and East Jeddore/Oyster Pond.

Each event featured educational displays and information on the use and benefits of CFLs.

Home Depot

In an innovative partnership with Canada's leading distributor of energy efficient lighting, Conserve Nova Scotia educated consumers and distributed 40,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs through retail outlets in Halifax, Dartmouth and Sydney.

This project featured extensive media promotion which had a substantial impact on consumers awareness of the benefits of CFLs.

Antigonish Electrical Utility - CFL Promotion

Conserve Nova Scotia partnered with the Antigonish Electrical Utility to distribute two compact fluorescent lights to each of the utility's 2500 residential customers in December of 2006.

Comparisons of peak demand from year to year shortly after this project was completed showed a noticeable reduction in the Antigonish Utility's overall power use.

Climate Change Centre

The Climate Change Centre organized a student campaign to distribute compact fluorescent bulbs to north end Halifax residents during the University of Kings College 2006 Frosh Week.

Eclairez-Vous

In partnership with the Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corp every household in Cheticamp was personally given one of 3,000 CFL during the summer of 2006.
